Concrete Container Care, Maintenance and Planting Instructions
Cast stone and concrete containers are durable, heavy, and designed for outdoor use, but proper planting and seasonal care are important to help extend the life of the planter.
Place the container on a flat, level surface with proper support. A prepared base of gravel, flagstone, pavers, or another hardscaping material is preferred to help maintain stability and drainage.
Always make sure drainage holes remain open and clear. Good drainage is important for healthy plants and helps prevent excess water from collecting inside the container.
Use a quality potting mix appropriate for the plants being used. Do not use heavy garden soil, as it can hold too much moisture and add unnecessary weight to the container.
During freezing weather, concrete containers should not be left full of wet soil or standing water. Planters should be emptied or protected before the first freeze to help prevent damage caused by freeze and thaw cycles.
If the planter remains outdoors during winter, raise it slightly off the ground with pot feet or another stable support so water can drain freely and the container does not freeze directly to the surface below.
Concrete containers should be covered with an appropriate breathable cover. Do not use tarps or plastic, as they can trap moisture and cause damage.
Covers should be checked weekly and after stormy weather or heavy snowfall, as they can shift and expose the container to moisture.
To help maintain the finish, we recommend applying a clear acrylic spray rated for outdoor use once a year.
Concrete containers do not come with a manufacturer's warranty.
