Upcycled Oil Drum Art

These hand-made pieces of art from Le Primitif Gallery are created in Haiti from reclaimed steel drums. This art form began in the late 1950's by Georges Liataud, a blacksmith. Artists begin by flattening a steel drum and sketching a design. Once completed, the art is meticulously cut out by hand with a hammer and chisel, making no two identical. Creating art from these drums has been a way for local artisans to secure income. Each piece carries the artist’s signature.
